Test Results
How and when to obtain test results from the surgery
Getting your test results
If you have had a test taken here in the practice, or requested by the practice then the result will return to the practice. This can include:
- Blood tests
- Urine tests
- X-rays
- Limited types of ultrasound, MRI and CT scans
Your doctor or nurse will usually let you know how long the result will take to come back. You can then telephone the practice to enquire after the result.
Please phone: 0131 322 9333 after 9:30am.
If further action is required after your result is back, then we will let you know.
We usually telephone patients with results that require further action, but are currently trialing text messages to patients with some blood test results. If you receive a text message and have a question, please telephone us. Please do not reply to the text message.
If we do not have a telephone number for a patient but need to get in touch regarding a result then we will write to you.
If you have attended a test that has been organised by a hospital consultant, please be aware that the result will return directly to the hospital consultant.
If you have a question regarding a test that your hospital consultant has organised then you should telephone the hospital - the consultant's secretary will usually be able to help.
You can telephone NHS Lothian hospital switchboard on 0131 536 1000 or 0131 537 1000.
