We run a daily GP phone triage system, which means that all GP appointments are bookable on the day and cannot be booked in advance.

In addition to GP consultations the practice adheres to the General Medical Services Contract for the provision of healthcare services:

Chronic Disease Clinics. These are practice nurse-led and involve the management of asthma, COPD, diabetes, coronary heart disease,  hypertension, thyroid and epilepsy reviews. 

Lifestyle Advice. This deals with  issues around weight management, diet, cholesterol and hypertension. CURRENTLY SUSPENDED 

Minor Illness Clinics. These are run daily by our practice nurses. 

Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner - Jenny Mulvey Every GP practice in Midlothian has an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner who works within the practice who you can speak to if you have a muscle, bone or joint problem. They are all highly experienced and can assess and diagnose any musculoskeletal conditions, provide you with an explanation of your condition, appropriate exercises and discuss management options. This may include referral to your local Physiotherapy department for ongoing physiotherapy, pain management advice, X-ray or referral for a specialist opinion.

Phone our practice and ask for an appointment with the Physiotherapist.

They can help with:
Muscle, bone or joint pain
Back pain / Sciatica
Neck pain / Whiplash
Joint pain & stiffness including knee/ shoulder, wrist and hand pain and osteoarthritis
Muscle or tendon pain e.g. tennis elbow, achilles tendon pain
Sprains or strains e.g. knee / ankle sprain, calf strain
Weakness / de-conditioning after injury or surgery
Loss of confidence with movement and physical activity.

 This physiotherapy service is independent from the self referral service above.

Family Planning. This includes the insertion of coils (IUCDS) and Implanon. Please read this check list to see if this is suitable for you. You can also read about coils on the Chalmers Sexual Health Centre website.

Emergency Contraception A copper coil insertion is the most effective form or emergency contraception if fitted up to five days after unprotected intercourse and is ten times more effective than the morning after pill. Please speak to reception to arrange a telephone appointment, either with us, or other sexual health drop in centres for a coil fitting or other suitable treatment.

Specialist Palliative Care

Other Health Care Services Provided mum_baby

Antenatal Clinic. The midwifery team provide health care to pregnant women and offer a full range of clinics and advice.  They can be contacted by calling 0131 537 9886.

Treatment Room and Phlebotomy. This service is run by CHP and you can make an appointment directly on 537 9945 between 08:30 and 13:30.  The nurses do ear syringing, dressings, injections and deal with minor injuries.  The phlebotomist provides a blood taking clinic. 

District Nursing Team. The team provide health care in the community.  Referrals are made by the GP.  They can be contacted by telephoning 0131 537 9894.

Health Visiting Team. Weekly clinics are run by the health visitor.  They provide a child health surveillance programme for families with pre-school children.  Parents/guardians are sent appointments for their immunisations and checks by the team.  The team are available on 537 9903. 

School Nursing Team As well as vaccinations and height and weight checks, the School Nursing Service also offers additional support such as with Emotional Health and Wellbeing and Child Protection. Read more on their website

Community Vaccination Team - administer all baby and childhood vaccinations. If you miss a vaccination appointment or need to reschedule, please telephone the team on 0131 446 4295.
